To the Editor: We’re approaching the end of an era, and 10 years of great changes. Starting in 2007, the United States slid into a devastating recession, and appears to be exiting with the U.S. economy permanently changed.
In the last eight years, the United States has elected a black president, left and entered wars, legalized gay marriage, expanded health care and tried different approaches in schooling. This has resulted in a feeling of being whipsawed economically and emotionally.
On Jan. 19 from 7 to 10 p.m, the Riley County Democratic Party is sponsoring a evening of mourning for the departed, President Barack Obama at the Holiday Inn at the Campus, 1641 Anderson Ave. Admission is $5 at the door with cash bar.
This will be a time for people to discuss changes in their views created by the work of President Obama, and if their lives have changed for the better or worse in the last eight years. I anticipate there will be a lot of guessing about the future.
If your life has been affected by Barack Hussein Obama, we’d like you to join us. Party affiliation is irrelevant. Karen Hawes 777 Midland Ave.
