Daniel Hogan, a candidate in April’s city commission election, announced Tuesday he will be unable to attend the last four public forums because his newborn daughter is in a neonatal intensive care unit in Topeka.
Hogan said medical experts want the baby to gain more weight and strength before allowing her to go home.
The forums in question are the Chamber of Commerce forum March 4, the League of Women Voters forum March 10, the Manhattan Realtors forum March 11, and the Downtown Manhattan forum March 25.
Although Hogan has bowed out of the forums, he has not withdrawn from the race and said if he should win a seat on the commission, his daughter’s health would not interfere with his ability to serve. He expressed confidence the health issues would be resolved by then.
“I am eager to discuss the important matters vital to the people and the future progress of Manhattan, and I look forward to continuing to reach out, while also enjoying the excitement of ... fatherhood,” he said.
