Herspring needn’t worry—military will be funded

By Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:

The sky is falling! The sky is falling! At least Dale Herspring believes so. Time chose Pope Francis as Person of the Year. I nominate Mr. Herspring as Mr. Gullible of the Year.

In his column of Dec. 15, he quotes numerous high ranking military officers as to the dire—nay, disastrous — effects of Congressional funding cuts. Never once does he doubt their veracity. Every military arm needs more money, far more money. Or else, according to Mr. Herspring, the security of the U.S.A. is in peril.

Will somebody please assure Mr. Herspring — aka Manhattan’s Chicken Little — that he needn’t lie awake at nights worrying. I’m certain Congress will adequately fund our military so it can carry out its missions.

And in the future, I hope Mr. Herspring will more objectively evaluate who is making these dire predictions if Congress doesn’t give the military every dollar for which they ask.
