The preliminary hearing for a man accused of shooting several people and killing one at the University Gardens apartment complex earlier this month was set for May in Riley County District Court Monday morning.

Matthew Wilson, 43, appeared via video communication in front of Judge John Bosch Monday, where his lawyer, Larry McRell, and Riley County Attorney Barry Wilkerson agreed to a two-day preliminary hearing on May 21 and 22.

Wilson is accused of murdering Fort Riley soldier Michael Lowery, 22, on April 8. According to the complaint against him, Wilson allegedly entered into a neighbor’s apartment, belonging to Dustin Ferguson, 22, and Joel Solano, 28, at 900 Garden Way at about 4 a.m. Sunday and opened fire, killing Lowery and wounding three others.

Wilson is also charged with four counts of attempted murder and one count of aggravated burglary.
