Hearing continued for shootings suspect

WESTMORELAND — A man accused of shooting at police outside the Quality Inn and Suites in Manhattan in December 2013 will have a continued hearing in Pottawatomie County District Court.

Dustin Monroe of Wamego was scheduled to appear for a status hearing today, but his attorney, Lora Ingels, requested a continuance.

Today’s appearance originally was supposed to be a continuance from a January status hearing.

The charges stem from the Dec. 10 incident in which Monroe was reportedly hospitalized after a shootout with police in Manhattan.

Monroe, who was wounded by police gunfire, was the only casualty in the incident.

Monroe, 33 at the time of the incident, is charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, two counts of criminal discharge of a firearm into an occupied dwelling and one count of criminal damage to property.
