Hayden ends Wamego’s season

By The Mercury

At Topeka, Wamego saw its season come to an end on Thursday night in a 48-28 loss at Hayden.

The Red Raiders opened their season with a loss to Rock Creek, but then won five straight games to claim their first outright NCKL league title in 33 years.

But Wamego struggled in its tough district, dropping games to No. 1-ranked Holton and then Royal Valley before Thursday’s finale at Hayden.

Wamego quarterback Marshall Wethington was 25-of-50 for 294 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for another.

But Hayden outscored the Red Raiders 35-14 in the first half, and Wamego was held to zero rushing yards on 18 attempts.
