Local youth golfers from around the area competed in the Manhattan City Junior Championship Thursday and Friday, with Cole Gritton bringing home the overall boys’ championship and Macie Myers winning the overall girls’ title.
The Junior Championship, the final event in the Manhattan Junior Golf Association’s summer golf season, featured a two-course tournament based on age division, with older players playing rounds at the Manhattan Country Club and Stagg Hill, while the younger golfers played at Wildcat Creek and Colbert Hills.
Gritton shot a combined score of 154 to not only win the 14-15 age division, but also the overall boys’ title.
Myers finished with a 175 combined score to also win the 14-15 age division and the overall girls’ championship.
Winning the 16-18 division was Mary Francis McNellis with a 197.
All youth in the 12-13 division and below shot two nine-hole rounds instead of a pair of 18-hole rounds.
In the 12-13 division, Katie Ochoa took first place with a 121 just ahead of Kami Bussman, who shot a 123 for second.
In the 10-11 division, Jaiden Weixelman shot a 98 for first place, while Ella Rhodes won the 8-9 division with a 107, four strokes ahead of second-place Allie Schurle (111).
Kat Ball won the 5-7 division, shooting a 99.
On the boys’ side, Will Grogan won the 16-18 division shooting a 180, with Frank Felber right behind in second with a 185.
In the 14-15 division, Wesley Grogan finished in second behind Gritton with a 175.
Casey Gritton shot an 87 to win the boys’ 12-13 division, with Stephen McNellis shooting an 86 to win the highly-competitive 10-11 division, which included Kyler Hahn and Parker Day each shooting an 88 to tie for second, while Cody Schurle carded an 89 for fourth.
Kaiden Siebert shot a 98 to win the 8-9 division, while Tanner Schurle shot a 105 to win the 5-7 division.
