GPS helps locate stolen cellphone

By The Mercury

A man used his GPS to track down the person who took his phone while at a bar in Aggieville over the weekend.

Braden Erickson, 24, 1100 block of Claflin, told police someone took his cell phone while he was at Kites. He tracked the phone to Tyron Hodges, 26, of 1119 Yuma St.

Officer Matt Droge said Hodges refused to identify himself to Riley County Police officers, who arrested Hodges for obstruction of the legal process and misdemeanor theft. He was released on $1,500 bond. The phone, valued at $300, was recovered.

Droge said GPS tracking on cell phones is a nice feature, but doesn’t always work. He said it is better to have the GPS turned on than not, just for instances like this.
