Goodpasture sentencing rescheduled

By The Mercury

The sentencing for a Manhattan man convicted of 21 sex offenses, including rape, has once again been continued to a later date.

John Goodpasture Jr., 43, was scheduled to appear in Riley County District Court Thursday but his lawyer, Gene Parrish, filed a motion to continue so counsel could have more time to gather information and file a response.

Goodpasture’s original sentencing was scheduled for Oct. 5, but at that hearing, Parrish requested that Goodpasture’s August trial be thrown out after he said exculpatory evidence was withheld from him by the state.

District Judge David Stutzman continued that sentencing to Thursday, declining to rule on the matter during the Oct. 5 hearing.

The new date for Goodpasture’s sentencing has not been announced.
