Girls’ basketball to host Emporia

By Grant Guggisberg

While the boys’ team plays in McPherson this week, the Manhattan High girls’ basketball team hosts a rematch against Emporia tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Manhattan won the first matchup 36-33 in Emporia in December.

“I’m sure we’ll see much of the same we saw last time, but a little better,” head coach Scott Mall said. “Last time, they had a couple girls that were playing their first games of the season, so I’m sure they’ll be more used to things now.”

Emporia is now 4-5 on the season, and Mall expects them to be just as physical as they were last time.

“It’ll be another physical game,” he said. “They’ll come in and play a very physical defense and scrap hard, so we’ll have to step up. We’ll have to keep improving and we should be OK.”
