Get wet and wild at zoo’s water safari

By Ben Hopper

This past week brought a lot of rain. The water continues this weekend with the Sunset Zoo’s Water Safari and Kids’ Free Day on Saturday.

From noon to 4:30 p.m., the Manhattan Fire Department will be on hand to hose guests down throughout the afternoon.

Family-friendly activities will be available throughout the zoo including a wee ones water area, mist zones and more.

Children receive free admission from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a paying adult.

Other activities include the Zoo Ambassador Program featuring live animal encounters at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. in Chautauqua Amphitheatre, water-themed activity stations inside the Nature Exploration Center, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers water safety tips and bingo.

In other wet events, the Manhattan Public Library is hosting an all-ages storytime with a theme of “Summer Splash” at 11 a.m. at the Library.
