Four Wildcats named All-Big 12

Kansas State placed four football players on the Preseason All-Big 12 team on Wednesday, as voted on by media representatives who cover the league.

Senior wide receiver and kick returner Tyler Lockett was named to the preseason team for the third straight season, while offensive linemen B.J. Finney and Cody Whitehair were also named to the offensive squad.

Defensive end Ryan Mueller rounded out the group as the lone Wildcat named to the preseason team on defense.

Lockett, a native of Tulsa, Okla., caught 81 passes for 1,262 yards and 11 touchdowns a year ago and enters the 2014 season needing 75 receptions, 838 yards and nine touchdowns to break all three school records that are owned by his father, Kevin.

A native of Andale, Finney earned All-Big 12 First-Team honors each of the last two years and has started all 39 career games, including the last 38 at center.

Whitehair was an All-Big 12 Second-Team performer in 2013 after starting all 13 games at left guard. The Abilene native has started 25 of his 26 career games.

A former walk-on who turned into the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2013, Mueller recorded a school-record tying 11.5 sacks last season to go along with 18.5 tackles for loss. He earned Second-Team All-America honors as a junior as well as All-Big 12 First-Team accolades.

Baylor led the Big 12 with six selections, while Oklahoma had four All-Big 12 picks.

The Big 12 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year went to Baylor’s Bryce Petty, while TCU’s Devonte Fields was named Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.  The Preseason Newcomer of the Year went to Oklahoma State receiver Tyreek Hill.
