Fort Riley soldier charged with rape appears in court

A Fort Riley soldier charged with sex crimes against three children appeared in court for a preliminary hearing Thursday afternoon in Riley County court.

Christopher Bates, 31, was charged with three counts of rape, three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and one count of aggravated criminal sodomy.

The reported victims were three girls known to him and were ages 12, 10 and 7 at the time of the alleged crimes last summer.

An arraignment for Bates is scheduled for Jan.6 with Judge David Stutzman presiding.
