Former Kansas State standout golfer Robert Streb fired a 4-under 284 and tied for 19th place in the 2014 Farmer’s Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course last weekend in La Jolla, Calif.
The result marked the first top-20 finish on the PGA Tour for Streb in three events played this year and the fourth such finish overall.
A four-year letterman for K-State head coach Tim Norris, Streb finished just five strokes behind tournament winner Scott Stallings and placed ahead of a loaded event field that included 2012 Master’s winner Bubba Watson and 79-time PGA Tour event winner Tiger Woods.
Playing on Torrey Pines’ South course, Streb recorded a 1-over 73 in the first round before bouncing back with a second-round 3-under 69.
Streb then carded a 2-under 70 on Saturday before turning in an even-par 72 over Sunday’s final round to finish the event at 2-under 284, tying with fellow American’s Erik Compton and Jordan Spieth and Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts.
With the finish, Streb now stands 135th in the FedEx Cup standings and will look to improve upon his 327th Official World Golf Ranking moving ahead in 2014.
