By The Mercury

Riley County police arrested a man for allegedly attempting to remove items from his former residence Aug. 21.

Desie Martez Chatfield, 30, homeless, was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary and criminal damage to property. He was released from the Riley County jail on $5,000 bond.

Chatfield allegedly kicked in the rear door of the residence at 614 S. 17th St., and stole a washing machine and dryer, as well as a lawnmower, said Captain Kurt Moldrup with the Riley County Police Department. The total loss was $570.

Officers recovered the washer and dryer, but have not located the mower, he said. All three items belonged to the landlord of the property, Edward Eslinger, 52, of Kinsley.

Police have identified a second suspect in the incident, but an additional arrest has not been made.
