The field for the Second District seat on the Riley County Commission got its first declared candidate Thursday when Republican Paul Foltz said he intended to seek the office.
Foltz is a long-time resident and political activist who would be making his first run for election. The seat is held by Alvan Johnson, also a Republican, and Johnson has not yet declared his re-election plans.
Foltz made his intentions known in remarks delivered Thursday morning to the County Commission. He has until June to formally file papers putting his name on the ballot.
Johnson was elected in 2000, and was re-elected in both 2004 and 2008. The second district seat is one of two to be filled in November. Also up for grabs is the Third District seat of Democrat Karen McCulloh, who has said she does not intend to stand for re-election. Dave Fiser, a Republican, has filed for the Third District position.
