First degree murder trial set to begin Monday

Jury selection opened Monday morning in Riley County District Court in the first degree murder trial of Daniel Parker.

Parker has pleaded not guilty in the death of Frederick Beverly, who was 21 when he was shot Jan. 1, 2012. Beverly was shot and killed outside of a party being held by his motorcycle club, the Assassin Street Rydaz. Beverly was shot in the forehead as he was manning a gate.

He was a member of the Kansas National Guard.

The incident was reported around 4 a.m. that New Year’s Day.

If a jury was empaneled Monday morning, testimony was expected to be taken starting Monday afternoon. Parker’s trial is scheduled to last until Friday.
