Fire destroys Wamego’s Tradewinds

An arson fire Sunday morning did more than $150,000 damage to the Tradewinds banquet facility at 515 Plum St., in Wamego.

Firefighters from Wamego, St. George, Louisville and Westmoreland responded. In addition personnel from the Wamego Police and Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Departments and Pottawattamie County Emergency Medical Service and Emergency Management came to assist during the fire.

The building and contents were considered a complete loss.

The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office, assisted by investigators and a canine unit from the Topeka Fire Department, determined that the fire was intentionally set.

The Wamego Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in solving the crime. A reward is being offered for the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
