Kansas State sophomore center B.J. Finney was one of 50 players nationally and four from the Big 12 named to the 2012 Rimington Trophy Watch List, the award committee has announced.
Finney, a native of Andale, is a former walk-on who has turned into a team leader for the Wildcats. Last season, he was a First-Team Freshman All-American and All-Big 12 selection by Rivals.com, while he earned Second-Team All-Big 12 honors from the Kansas City Star and honorable mention All-Big 12 accolades from the Associated Press.
Finney was also a candidate for the Burlsworth Trophy, which honors the nation’s top walk-on player.
On the field, Finney started all 13 games in 2011 and helped the Wildcats average 193.7 rushing yards per game, which was 29th nationally, and pave the way for quarterback Collin Klein’s NCAA-record 27 rushing touchdowns.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I-A College Football.
