Sam Fidone shot a Thursday-best 7-under par, 65, to take the lead at the Colbert Charity Classic at Colbert Hills.

After shooting 4-under on Thursday, Fidone, a Lufkin, Texas, native, took a second-round lead with the best score of the day, dropping him to 11-under for the tournament.

Fidone’s top showing on the Adams Pro Tour this year, which hosts the Colbert Classic, was April 23-26 in the Fakier Open, where he finished tied for fourth.

Last year’s winner, Zack Fischer, won the tournament by shooting 6-under par. The 2012 winner, the first year of the tournament, was James Marshall, who shot 16-under. Neither are competing in this year’s tournament.

First-round leader Blake Trimble, from Houston, shot a 2-under score of 70 to pull to 9-under and fall to second place.

Albert Miner shot 3-under on Friday to settle into third, while Zack Reeves and Drew Laning were tied for fourth place at 6-under.

The tournament cut the field down to 34 golfers after Friday’s round, with the cut at 1-over par.
