FHCS scholar bowl team goes undefeated

The Flint Hills Christian School (FHCS) varsity high school scholar bowl team finished its season Jan. 12 at the annual meet at Council Grove going undefeated and taking home first place.

The team had several close rounds against the other 15 teams, but managed to get through those to face the also undefeated team of El Dorado in their final match.

After getting behind to El Dorado 50 - 0, Flint Hills Christian School managed to come back and tie the match before the very last question. FHCS won the match and the meet on a year-in-review question by being quick on the buzzer and having the right answer.

Mervin Bitikofer, FHCS secondary science teacher and high scholar bowl sponsor said, “It was an exhilarating meet for our team, and yet at the same time humbling to note how many rounds could have easily gone against us but for one fortunate or unfortunate answer by either team. Our young scholars are to be commended for their work together as a team as well as for their individual scholarly growth.”

The 2012-2013 varsity team consists of: freshmen Parker Eaves, Ashlyn Shultz, and Arthur Williams; sophomore Derek Pockrandt; juniors Jozlynn Barnes, Kenan Bitikofer, Hannah DeWitt and Sarah Featherstone; and senior John Rogers.
