Few incidents mar Stampede

By Paul Harris

Riley County EMS Director Larry Couchman labeled the Friday and Saturday Country Stampede crowd as “well-behaved” and “very respectful”

Couchman said 180 patients were treated during Saturday’s show, many of them for alcohol and heat issues. Three of those alcohol-related incidents resulted in ambulance transports.

Friday was “pretty quiet,” Couchman said.

After the concerts let out, it got busier for EMS personnel. There were five ambulance transports during the night, one of which was trauma related to an alleged assault or battery.

Couchman described the problems as “under what I would have anticipated.”

The temperatures are expected to jump to 102 Sunday and Couchman encourages the crowd to drink plenty of fluids and take advantage of the shade.
