Fans to bring Purple Power to City Park

Purple Power Play in the Park will help ring in the new college football season on Thursday and Friday evenings at City Park.

The annual event, which began in 1988, is a festival held prior to the first home K-State football game.

K-State plays Stephen F. Austin at 6:10 p.m. Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

There will be pep rallies for K-State’s sports teams during Purple Power Play.

The K-State football and baseball teams will have a pep rally starting at 8:05 p.m. Thursday.

A pep rally for the K-State men’s and women’s basketball teams will happen at 8:05 p.m. Friday with a fireworks display following at sundown.

The two-day event will be in the north end of City Park near and around the Park Pavilion with live music, entertainment, food, games and an inflatable carnival.

On both evenings, Willie the Wildcat will take free photos from 5 to 7 p.m. in Park Pavilion.

The performance schedule is as follows:




K-State Tap Dance Ensemble at 6 p.m.

Bates Dance Studio at 6:30 p.m.

Rusty Rierson and Band at 7 p.m.




Manhattan High School Pop Choir at 6 p.m.

Washington Dance Studio at 6:30 p.m.

Annie Up at 7 p.m.
