Falcons win district opener

By The Mercury

At Nemaha Valley, the Riley County Falcons pushed their season winning streak to three straight on Friday, opening district play with a smooth 28-12 win over Nemaha Valley.

Just three weeks ago, the Falcons entered a game on the road at Wabaunsee with an 0-4 record, but have now rallied to three wins and have a chance to get to .500 with a win over Marysville at home next week.

Friday’s win was paced by quarterback Bryce Chavis, who rushed 33 times for 203 yards and three touchdowns. Chavis scored on a 45-yard run, two 10-yard runs, and completed a 36-yard pass to Landon Griffith.

The Falcons led the game 14-6 at halftime, and won the second half with another 14-6 output.
