Falcons’ Oliver wins 500th game; boys win overtime



At Rossville, Riley County girls head coach Harold Oliver notched his 500th win on Friday in a 41-20 victory over Rossville. The Falcons (14-5, 7-1 Mid-East) led 30-20 after three quarters before blanking the Bulldogs (3-15, 1-7) in the fourth quarter, 11-0.

Madison and Makayla Vargo combined for 23 points, while Katelyn Thomson scored 10 points.

ONAGA 61, BLUE VALLEY 38

At Randolph, Onaga (4-15, 1-9 Twin-Valley) got its first league win against Blue Valley (3-15, 2-9) on Friday, taking a 31-18 lead at halftime and continuing to build its lead in the second half.

Blue Valley was led by Brittany Pfaff’s 14 points, with Kim Innes adding eight. Raegan Hermreck scored 14 points for Onaga, including four 3s, while Taylor Kufahl added 11.

 

VALLEY HEIGHTS 52, WASHINGTON CO. 48

At Washington, the Mustangs (15-4, 11-1 Twin-Valley) led 43-31 after three quarters, but nearly let Washington County (16-1, 9-1) back into the game late, as the Tigers started knocking down shots while outscoring Valley Heights 17-9 in the fourth. The Mustangs knocked down 5 of 8 free throws in the fourth to close out the game.

Brandi Roepke scored 16 points, while Sidney Blackburn chipped in 15 and Drew Mann added 12 for Valley Heights.

 

SILVER LAKE 50, ROCK CREEK 34

At Silver Lake, the Eagles (13-5, 7-2 Mid-East) outscored the Mustangs (7-11, 4-5) 15-3 in the first quarter to build a lead that Rock Creek couldn’t overcome.

Alexis Wilson led Rock Creed with nine points.

 

WAMEGO 75, CONCORDIA 24

At Concordia, Wamego (18-1, 9-0 NCKL) dominated the Panthers (3-12, 1-7) from start to finish, leading 46-13 at halftime and not letting up.

Kaylee Page scored 23 points for the Red Raiders, while Lanie Page added 22. Rikki Alderson was also in double figures with 12.

 

Boys

RILEY COUNTY, 66, ROSSVILLE 62 – OT

At Rossville, the Falcons (5-14, 3-6 Mid-East) used a furious fourth-quarter rally to force overtime and beat the Bulldogs (4-15, 3-5) Friday night. Rossville led 45-32 after three quarters, but couldn’t close out the game.

Jacey Buss led Riley County with 16 points, while Joel Marienau added 13.

 

ONAGA 45, BLUE VALLEY 42

At Randolph, Onaga (11-7, 6-4 Twin-Valley) survived against Blue Valley (2-16, 1-10) on Friday, leading 32-28 after three quarters and hitting 5 of 7 free throws down the stretch to hold off the Rams. Blue Valley missed three free throws in the final quarter that could have forced overtime.

Bobby O’Neill led all scorers with 16 points, while Levi Peter chipped in 15 and Quinten Ross added six. Mitchell Kufahl led Onaga with 12 points.

 

WASHINGTON CO. 57, VALLEY HEIGHTS 44

At Washington, the Tigers (12-6, 6-3 Twin-Valley) took a 30-17 halftime lead and never looked back against the Mustangs (13-6, 9-3) on Friday, playing even the rest of the way for a comfortable win.

Charles Musil scored 13 for Valley Heights, with Derek Trimble adding nine.

 

SILVER LAKE 61, ROCK CREEK 53

At Silver Lake, the Eagles (16-2, 8-1 Mid-East) avenged a January loss to the Mustangs (15-3, 8-1), overcoming a six-point halftime deficit and outscoring Rock Creek 23-13 in the final quarter.

Shane Adams and Jacob Miller each scored 13 points for Rock Creek, with Carson Becker adding 12.

 

WAMEGO 76, CONCORDIA 71

At Concordia, the Red Raiders (15-4, 8-1 NCKL) took a 15-point lead to halftime and held off a rally by the Panthers (14-5, 6-3) in the second half to stay a game ahead of Abilene in the NCKL league race.

Brady Hemphill scored 19 points for Wamego, with Isaac Poe adding 18 and Matt Webb chipping in 16.
