Ernest Gail Bauer, 92, died Monday at Medicalodge in Clay Center.

He was born Oct. 7, 1921, in Clay County. Gail was raised in the Broughton community and graduated from CCCHS. He married Mina Oetinger on Oct. 24, 1943. They farmed in the Broughton area before moving to Fairbury, Neb., in 1964. They returned to Clay Center in 1967.

Gail worked for Gilmore-Tatge for 17 years before he retired and returned to farming. Mina preceded him in death on April 13, 1994. He later married Dorothy (LeClair) Friesen on March 8, 1997. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club and Lions Club, all of Clay Center and the Kansas Flying Farmers. He was also preceded in death by a son, Dan Bauer; and one sister.

He is survived by wife, Dorothy Bauer of Clay Center; son, Bruce of Clay Center; son, Brian of Clay Center; daughter, Diana of Manhattan; daughter, Pera of Spokane, Wash.; brother, Wade Bauer of Clay Center; brother, Robert Bauer of Wichita; brother, Wynn Bauer of Clay Center; brother, Lafe Bauer of Mission; sister, Pera Beth Eichelberger, Denver; 16 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Clay Center United Methodist Church in Clay Center with the Rev. Ryan Lynch officiating.

Burial will be at Broughton Cemetery in Broughton.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday. The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the Clay Center United Methodist Church or the Clay Center Utility Park and Zoo in care of the funeral home.
