Equipment malfunction responsible for Cox outage

Did you suffer from a lack of TV on Tuesday?

The cable for many Cox Communications customers stopped working between 11 a.m. and 3:20 p.m.

People didn’t get their midday news fix. Perhaps four hours of college basketball went unwatched on ESPN. And some customers never figured out who was the father on “Maury.”

Sarah Kauffman, Cox public relations director, said a piece of equipment malfunctioning caused the issue.

Thousands of customers saw a “Temporarily Off Air” message or wound up staring at channels with frozen images.

Kauffman said customers across the state experienced intermittent video issues from mid-morning into the afternoon.

“Sometimes people would get their picture back, then it would start to freeze again,” Kauffman said.
