To the Editor:
The Manhattan/Riley County Preservation Alliance, in partnership with Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a music fraternity at Kansas State University, will present the program, “American Music Spectacular,” on the stage of Peace Memorial Auditorium, 1101 Poyntz Ave., Wednesday, May 7. A prelude performance will begin at 7 p.m., and the main show will start at 7:30 p.m.
The program will include music by American composers and will feature many Broadway tunes. There will be approxi-mately 100 talented K-State students performing instrumen-tals, vocals and dance. The pro-gram is free and open to the public, with donations appre-ciated for the restoration of Peace Memorial Auditorium, which is a World War II memorial.
After a communitywide effort in 1946, the citizens of Manhattan approved a bond to build an auditorium that would serve as a living memorial to the 2,610 Riley Countians who served and the 101 soldiers who lost their lives in World War II. Completed in 1955, Peace Memorial Audi-torium is in need of improve-ments, including air-condi-tioning and improvements to its electrical system, sound system, stage lighting and other needs. Donations will be accepted at the door the evening of the program to help finance these improvements.
Donations made to the Manhattan/Riley County Preser-vation Alliance are tax deduct-ible and may also be sent to the M/RCPA, P. O. Box 1893, Man-hattan, KS 66505. The preser-vation alliance hopes you will join us for the concert, experi-ence this wonderful perform-ance space for yourself and help with efforts to restore Peace Memorial Auditorium.
