The Eisenhower Middle School Eagles seventh-grade volleyball team opened its season Tuesday afternoon with a sweep of Wamego and Rock Creek.
The A team beat Rock Creek in the first match 25-10, 25-8. EMS then went on the beat Wamego, 25-16, 25-10. The second set of the Wamego match was close through the first several points before Alison Payne scored eight points in a row and helped seal the victory for the Eagles.
Malary Tajchman led all servers with 26 aces on the day and was 37 of 40 overall. Elise Funk led the team with eight kills, while Paige Fowler was 11 of 13 from the serving line. Both Kate McGee and Grace Warner were solid in the middle, and Kelsey Coonrod and Caitlin Swanson were leaders in the back row.
The B team also beat Rock Creek, 25-21, 27-25. The Eagles had to stave off a tough rally from a good Rock Creek team to seal the win.
The B team then went on to beat Wamego, 25-13, 25-14. Taylor Engler-Wyatt, Makala Niswanger and Alexis Kenney led all servers on the day, while Jessica Hagadorn led the team in digs.
