Drug arrests in local store

Two people were arrested at a local pawn store Tuesday after officers allegedly found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on them.

Officer Matthew Droge said Riley County officers were investigating an unrelated report at Wildcat Pawn, 2309 Tuttle Creek Blvd., when they made contact with Laura Heffner, 31, and Derek Beerbower, 28, both of 1858 Elaine Dr., after noticing the two were allegedly impaired.

Droge said the pair had a 1-year-old child with them who was taken into police protective custody following their arrest.

Both were arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and endangering a child younger than 18 years of age.

They are confined to the Riley County Jail on $2,500 bond.
