Authorities have identified the drowning victim found in Milford Lake Monday as James R. Struthers, 47, Junction City.

His body was recovered along the beach area commonly known as Nudie Beach just south of the Milford city boat ramp, Geary County Sheriff Tony Wolf said. Despite the name, a Milford Corps of Engineers employee said, the beach is not officially a nude beach, though she said the area is known for being a party cove.

According to authorities, alcohol has been noted as a contributing factor to the accident.

The search for Struthers began Friday night after a 911 call was made stating he had fallen from a boat and had not resurfaced.

Though crews from the sheriff’s department, the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and the Milford Corps of Engineers searched all day Saturday and Sunday, his body was not discovered until about 7:20 a.m. Monday.

Struthers was reportedly not wearing a life jacket when he fell into the water.

Though his death is being investigated as an accident, authorities said an autopsy is scheduled.
