Doubek named physician of the year

Dr. Debra Doubek was named 2013 Kansas Family Physician of the Year by the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians. Doubek grew up in Belleville and followed in her father, Herb, footsteps by becoming a family physician. She graduated high school from Belleville as class salutatorian, and went to Dana College in Blair, Neb. Worked for KU Medical Center in Kansas City training, residency, fellowship and assistant clinical professor in the Department of Family medicine. For the past 21 years, she has worked at Stonecreek Family Physicians as a private practitioner.  Doubeck also helped start Mercy LIGHT and has been helping sustain it since 2006.

Doubeck is married to Tom Phillips and has two children, who are in college pursuing degrees in the medical field.

In addition to Doubeck winning the award, her father won the same award in 1992.

This is the first time the award has been awarded to two physicians as parent and child.
