Don’t exploit memorials for political purposes

By Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:

Dear Representative Huelskamp,

Truly sir, I’m appalled by your recent poll regarding the “opening” of the World War II Memorial. My father and my uncles were all World War II veterans, and I am a Vietnam Era veteran. Never should veteran memorials be used as political pawns, which your poll questions surely do.

I know that you never served your country in uniform, but you can serve it by voting to open the government that your previous votes have closed. By that manner the World War II Memorial, as well as ALL memorials, would reopen. But in the strongest sense possible, I resent your use of my father’s service to this country as a means of promoting yourself and your political ends.
