‘Devil’ Brigade welcomes new commander

FORT RILEY — The 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, will hold a change of command ceremony at 10 a.m. June 28 at Cavalry Parade Field on Fort Riley.

Col. Michael F. Pappal, the “Devil” Brigade’s current commander will be replaced by Col. John W. Reynolds at that time.

Pappal led the unit during its deployment to Baghdad in support of Operation New Dawn in 2010-11. While in Iraq, the brigade’s mission was to advise, train and assist the Iraqi Security Forces, according to a press release from Fort Riley.

It was also among the last American units in the Iraqi capital.

Reynolds will assume command of the Devil Brigade in assisting with integrating new personnel and acquiring and training new weapon systems.

Maj. Gen. Paul E. Funk II, commanding general of the 1st Inf. Div. and Fort Riley, as well as Cols. Pappal and Reynolds are scheduled to speak at the ceremony.
