Denis Schulte, 86, died Sunday at Hays Medical Center in Hays.
The family provided some of the following information.
He was born Feb. 8, 1927, in Victoria, to Bernard H. and Clara (Linenberger) Schulte. He married Rosemary (Brungardt) Gross on May 2, 1964, in Victoria.
He was an electrician and a farmer. He was a 1945 graduate of Victoria High School and a WWII Army veteran. He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th degree assembly, V.F.W. Post No. 1751 and was Quartermaster for 45 years
He enjoyed his farming, V.F.W. activities, traveling, his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Rosie Schulte, of the home; two daughters, Lee Ann Hartwick and husband, Roger of Lawrence and Rosanne “Rose” Kreller and husband, David, Manhattan; three step-sons, John Gross and wife, Linda of Carlsbad, Calif., Paul Gross and wife Diane of Gorham and Tom Gross and wife, Aimee of Topeka; two sisters, Caroline Pfeifer of Hays and Edna Dreiling of Hays; one sister-in-law, Cora Schulte of Victoria; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, the Rev. Herman Schulte, John, Robert, Ed, and Benny; and one sister, Georgina Schulte.
Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church with burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery with military honors by the Victoria V.F.W. Post No. 1751.
A vigil service is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, a Knights of Columbus / V.F.W. rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, and a Victoria Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, all at Cline’s Mortuary, 412 Main St. in Victoria. Fourth degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday, all at Cline’s Mortuary in Victoria.
