Deborah (Debbie) Ann Dowling, 56, died on Saturday and is forever joined with her beloved grandson, Tyler, who preceded her in death on April 13, 2011.
The family provided some of the following information.
Debbie was born on June 8, 1957, in Manhattan and attended local schools.
On Nov. 21, 1972, in Council Grove, she was united in marriage to Richard Dowling of Manhattan. He survives of the home. She and Richard had just celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary. To this union they were blessed with three children Brian (Christy), Angie Dowling-Burnett (Tracy), both of Manhattan, and Travis of Moberly, Mo.
Debbie devoted her life to being a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. During her children’s school years she was the class mom for each of their classes and volunteered with all school events.
Debbie cherished her family, especially her eight grandchildren, Austin, Mary, Tyler (deceased), Taylor, Brianna, Tanner, Izzy (Isabella), and Addi (Adalynn), all of whom she cared for from birth to preschool.
Debbie was kind, generous, and always put her family’s needs before her own. She had a unique and special relationship with each of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and baking with her grandchildren as well as hosting family gatherings.
At the family’s request there will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.
A memorial service to celebrate Debbie’s life will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation with the Rev. Patrick McLaughlin officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in Debbie’s memory to the Manhattan Greater Community Foundation, 555 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502. All contributions will be applied to her grandson Tyler Dowling’s Memorial Fund, which will benefit youth who are nominated by a teacher, principal, coach or youth leader with annual scholarships to attend an educational, spiritual or athletic camp.
