Concert will benefit auditorium

By The Mercury

The Holiday Musical Spectacular, a concert to raise funds for the stage at Peace Memorial Auditorium, will take place at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the auditorium.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the door to go toward restoring the auditorium’s stage after the city commission voted in September to consider options for renovation. The commission had previously voted to remove the stage.

The stage was built in the 1950s as a memorial to Riley County World War II veterans.

The concert will feature 60 students from the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity at K-State.

They will perform traditional, classical, jazz and choral music. The concert will also include a Christmas carol sing-along with the audience.

Donations also can be sent to the Manhattan/Riley County Preservation Alliance, P.O. Box 1893, Manhattan, KS 66505.
