City hits $10 million in sales tax receipts

Despite lower sales tax receipts for the month, Manhattan easily broke the $10 million mark for sales in 2012, Finance Director Bernie Hayen said in a report.

Sales taxes figures for December 2012 were lower than those for the same month last year, but that might reflect an early cutoff date on sales tax collections, Hayen said.

“Nearly every retail sector was down compared to a year ago,” Hayen said. “Nonetheless, we easily broke the $10 million mark, which in itself is a significant milestone.”

The report showed $800,762 in sales tax receipts for December, down $94, 743 from $895,505 in December 2011. Total sales tax receipts for the year totaled $10,543,743.

The adjusted rate showed sales tax receipts of $737,805 for December, down from $835,142 for December 2011.
