City Commission’s action on petition defies belief

By Letters to the Editor

To The Editor:
On Tuesday evening at the Commission meeting I saw confirmation of something I couldn’t quite believe when I saw it on emails I received early on from two of the new commissioners: they represent only the people who voted for them. What then happens to the needs of the 47,000 people who didn’t vote for them, but still have to live in Manhattan. Perhaps those non-voters were functioning under the perfectly logical belief that elected officials, no matter which party label they wore, would some day realize that fundamentally they were public servants whose function was to listen to people and try to accommodate many disparate views?
