The Riley County Police Department’s Citizens’ Police Academy began Tuesday and will run through May.

Officials said the Academy is a 20-hour course that teaches citizens how the department operates. It runs every Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the last class will be held on May 7.

Officials said the purpose of the academy is to develop a more positive relationship between the police and the community.

Participants will learn about crime-scene investigation, emergency response units, use of force and patrol procedures, among other topics.
