Charles Samuel (Chuck) Herr, 84, of Manhattan, died October 2.

Chuck was born in Dallas Center, Iowa on June 2, 1929, the son of the late Albert H. and Vivian Frances (Miller) Herr. On June 15, 1956, in Manhattan at the First United Methodist Church, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Brighton, who survives him of the home.

Chuck graduated from the Dallas Center, Iowa High School class of 1947 and from Kansas State with a Bachelors degree in Business. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, the Manhattan Lions Club, AFS, Foster Parent and the Historical Preservation Alliance. Chuck served in the U.S. Navy and also in the U.S. Army. He worked as a Historical Preservationist, a former partner and manager of Brighton Home Furnishings in Manhattan.

Mr. Herr is also survived by two daughters, Conni Herr-Scherff and husband, Tom, of Manhattan, and Claudia Herr of Dallas; a sister, Helen Collaro of Long Island, N.Y.; two brothers, Edgar Herr of Grangler, Iowa, and James R. Herr, of Sun City West, Ariz.; and a grandson, Riley Scherff of Manhattan. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Albert J Herr, and two sisters, Norma L. Barnes and Della Mae Bowie.

Cremation has been chosen and the family received friends from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at their home, 3405 Claflin.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the donors choice in memory of Charles Samuel (Chuck) Herr and sent in care of Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, 1317 West Poyntz. Chuck donated to the Terry C. Johnson Cancer Research at K-State, The Lions Club Melvin Jones Memorial Fund and the First United Methodist Church.
