Cemetery collecting wreaths for veterans

By The Mercury

Holiday wreath donations are being taken in advance of a ceremony to honor fallen veterans and their loved ones at 11 a.m. Dec. 15 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd.

The cemetery will host the Wreaths Across America Program. The program will begin with a short memorial ceremony followed by the placement of donated holiday wreaths at the interment cities of the veterans.

Holiday wreaths are provided purely by donations from families, businesses and charitable organizations. Anyone wishing to support this project may send a donation to Beehive Class, Attn: Wreaths Across America, P.O. Box 951, Ogden, KS 66517.

This program began at Arlington National Cemetery in 1992 and has spread across the United States and to many parts of the world.

Its purpose is to honor all veterans for their sacrifices made for our country.

The ceremony is open to the public.

Immediately following the ceremony, families and volunteers will place the wreaths at the interment cities.
