Cats top Cowboys, will play KU for title Saturday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The matchup is set.

Kansas State got past Oklahoma State 68-57 Friday night behind 23 points from Rodney McGruder in the Big 12 Championship semifinal at the Sprint Center.

With the win, the Wildcats (27-6) advanced to play the rival Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday at 5 p.m. with the Big 12 title on the line. KU defeated Iowa State 88-73 in the earlier semifinal game Friday night.

McGruder was 8 of 14 from the field, including 7 of 8 from the free-throw line to pace the Wildcats, who took two of three from the Cowboys this season. Angel Rodriguez added 17 points, while Jordan Henriquez scored eight points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Big 12 Player of the Year Marcus Smart led the way for the Cowboys with 18 points and six rebounds. Le’Bryan Nash added 11 points.

K-State, which shot 39 percent from the field, led the Cowboys 28-23 at halftime and by as many as 15 points midway through the second half.
