ATHENS, Ga. — No. 46 K-State opened its 2012 spring schedule on Friday evening at the Bulldog Invitational by facing the host and No. 7 Georgia Bulldogs at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The Bulldogs defeated the Wildcats, 6-1, and ended the Wildcats’ seven-match winning streak in season-openers.

Georgia secured an early 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles point. K-State’s number two pair of juniors Karla Bonacic and Carmen Borau Ramos pushed the Georgia duo of Chelsey Gullickson and Maho Kowase to the brink before falling, 8-6. Bonacic and Borau Ramos are now 3-2 this season in doubles play.

K-State’s lone win in singles action came from Bonacic at the number two position. The native of Split, Croatia, who is ranked No. 94 in the Campbell/ITA top-125 singles rankings, tallied a 6-4, 6-2 win over No. 22 Kowase. The win by Bonacic was her first over a ranked opponent since April 29, 2010 and the third of her career. For the season, Bonacic is 5-2 and 2-2 in straight set matches.
