Former Manhattan High standout Jackie Carmichael was named to the Missouri Valley Conference’s first team on Tuesday.

The Illinois State senior is averaging 17.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.9 blocks a game this season. Carmichael was selected to the MVC all-defensive team for the second straight year.

Carmichael finished third in voting for the player of the year award, which was given to Creighton’s star forward Doug McDermott for the second straight season.

In other Valley awards, Creighton’s Ethan Wragge was named sixth man of the year, Wichita State’s Cleanthony Early newcomer of the year, Missouri State’s Marcus Marshall freshman of the year and Bradley’s Dyricus Simms-Edwards defensive player of the year.

Carmichael and Early were joined on the all-conference first team by McDermott, Indiana State’s Jake Odum and Evansville’s Colt Ryan.

Ryan was runner-up to McDermott for player of the year.

Wichita State, which gives up 60.8 points a game, was named defensive team of the year.
