A car crashed into the front of Lee Elementary Monday evening, damaging the school’s the front doors.

A person driving a black Dodge Charger that “lost its brakes” on Lee Street crashed into the front doors of the school around 9 p.m., Riley County Police Department’s spokesman Alexander Robinson said Tuesday.

Robinson said he believes the brakes on the car stopped working. Robinson said RCPD had minimal information on the wreck because it did not occur on a public street and no one was injured.

Nancy Kole, Lee Elementary principal, said the school’s maintenance crew was able to clean up the mess and secure the building.

“We are all very thankful that this accident happened at night and that no one was injured,” she said. “This was truly an accident. The driver was not trying to harm the school.”
