Car chase leads police through town, ends with woman taken to hospital

By The Mercury

A woman led local and state police on a chase across several area counties Saturday that ended with her being taken to a local hospital.

Authorities began their pursuit of the woman, who they had not identified Saturday night, around 2 p.m. Saturday in a chase that lasted about 30 minutes.

The chase began on U.S. Highway 24 near St. George in Pottawatomie County. From there, the woman drove into Manhattan, turning onto Kansas Highway 177 and heading south in the direction of I-70.

Rather than turning on to the interstate, she continued on K-177 through a portion of Geary County until she came to Old K-18 Road in Wabaunsee County, turning east and continuing for several miles before police stopped her.

Cole McGee, communications specialist for Kansas Highway Patrol, said the Highway Patrol was briefly involved with the pursuit.

McGee said it was suspected that the woman had taken some pills.  For that reason, she was transported to the hospital before being charged.

He said the RCPD was handling the case because that office had more charges against the driver than the Highway Patrol.

The RCPD would not comment on the incident.
