The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of Christopher J. Webber, 29, 320 South Manhattan Ave., on Thursday in connection with several burglaries having occurred in Pottawatomie County.

Webber was arrested on several charges, including aggravated burglary, burglary and theft.

He is currently being held at the Pottawatomie County Jail on $100,000 bond.

The Sheriff’s Office took a burglary report on Sept. 29 in the rural Manhattan area. This burglary was followed over the coming weeks by three additional residential burglaries, and two car burglaries, all occurring east of Manhattan and north of Highway 24.

A break in the case came when the suspect came to yet another residence in this same area as the other burglaries.

However, the alert homeowner who was at home noted the suspect’s unusual behavior. This homeowner contacted the Sheriff’s Office with vehicle description and license plate information.

A sheriff patrol unit in the St. George area again saw the suspect vehicle on Oct. 30. The occupants fled the vehicle which led to a manhunt in the St. George area that involved several units as well as Kansas Highway Patrol and the KHP aircraft.

With this and other information, sheriff detectives identified a suspect and obtained search warrants for residence and vehicles in Riley and Pottawatomie Counties.

As a result of these warrants, a portion of the stolen property has been recovered.
