Burglary, thefts in Pottawatomie County

The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary to a residence in rural St. George and two thefts to vehicles parked at the Rocky Ford Fishing Area in Manhattan.

In the first case, Sheriff Greg Riat said, an unknown person burglarized a St. George residence located on Lake Elbo Road, south of Deane Road.

The person or persons gained entrance to this residence and removed several firearms, including a .32-caliber Iver Johnson revolver, a 12-gauge side-by-side double-barrel shotgun of an unknown brand, a Marlin 30-30 lever-action rifle and several other items. The total loss is estimated at $900. 

Riat said the incident occurred sometime after 3 p.m. June 27 and before 12:30 p.m. June 28.

The sheriff’s office is also investigating two vehicular thefts from vehicles that were parked and unattended at the Rocky Ford Fishing area, 5400 Rocky Ford Road.  Riat said that sometime between June 22 and June 24, an unknown person or persons removed a pair of black and tan reading glasses, a silver Canon digital camera and a lunch box from one vehicle; and an ABU Garcia 30 series fishing reel, a 6-foot Ugly Stick fishing pole and miscellaneous fishing items from the second vehicle. The total loss of both thefts is estimated at $735. Anyone with information on either of these reported cases is asked to contact the Pottawatomie County Sheriff Office at 785-457-3353.
