The USD 383 school board will vote for a new site work company for the Bishop Stadium artificial turf project during its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Robinson Education Center.
At its March 27 meeting, the school board approved the Bishop Stadium artificial turf project’s financing, turf vendor and bids for site work.
The turf committee is changing its initial recommendation, which was Double E Construction of Gas, after the company failed to fulfill the terms of the bid “by not providing verification of bonding within a reasonable time frame.”
Budget director Lew Faust, who is on the committee, said the project wouldn’t be delayed by this action. The project’s start date is May 15. It is expected to be finished by the beginning of the 2013-14 school year.
“Obviously with the time frame we’re dealing with, we got to a point where we had to make a decision before a delay occurred,” Faust said.
Bayer Construction Company of Manhattan would replace Double E if the board votes to make this change. It would cost $38,008 more than Double E’s site work bid.
Bayer is also up for board approval on the Manhattan High West Campus parking lot construction project.
The district acquired the parking lot site during construction and renovation at the high school. It is the area between the south parking lot and Oak Street.
The board will also hear first readings on school meal prices, textbook adoption and purchases, and student fees and textbook rentals for the upcoming school year.
